Quentin Chaney relieved some frustration on Saturday. This touchdown catch was the first of the sophomore’s career. BY CHRIS LANDSBERGER, THE OKLAHOMAN
Oklahoma sophomore receiver Quentin Chaney, a 6-foot-5, 208-pound, two-sport standout from Tulsa Washington, scored his first career touchdown Saturday when he hauled in a 15-yard pass from quarterback Paul Thompson against Missouri.
Has your career been frustrating up to this point, waiting for your first touchdown?
It has, but sometimes you've just got to keep working hard. Coaches have told me some things I haven't been doing (right), so I've been working on every part of my game.
Did you know the ball was headed your way?
It was just there, so I made a play, made it happen.
What was the reaction of your teammates?
That touchdown, I really dedicate it to Malcolm (Kelly) because he had a rough day with his grandfather passing away. I went straight up to Malcolm after the touchdown and said, ‘That's for your pa-paw.'
Any chance you'll play basketball for OU after the season?
Nah. I'll watch it, but I won't be playing. I've got to let it go. Basketball was just something to keep me busy, keep me out of trouble, get me out of the house sometimes, away from my parents, you know. It was kind of just something I ended up sticking with.
