The Bowl Championship Series rankings don't carry the same importance these days to Oklahoma football fans, but regardless, the first BCS rankings of the season were released Sunday.

The Sooners came in at No. 22, two spots ahead of Big 12 foe Missouri and three ahead of Tulsa.
Oklahoma is No. 20 in the three other major polls — the Associated Press, USA Today coaches' poll and the Harris Interactive poll.
• No back flips: First-year head coach Dan Hawkins earned his first victory at Colorado on Saturday when his Buffs defeated Texas Tech 30-6 in Boulder, Colo.
Before the win, Colorado was 0-6 under Hawkins, who says his players are happy to get a victory.
"I want them to be happy," Hawkins said. "But they need to get back to work, and we want to finish strong. We stare at that (1990) national championship trophy up there, and (Bill McCartney) goes into the Hall of Fame.
"I'd degrade the Buffalo tradition if I was going to do a back flip over 1-6."
• Brody the Blocker: Among the four players to line up at fullback for the Sooners this season — Matt Clapp, Ian Pleasant, Dane Zaslaw and Brody Eldridge — offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson says Eldridge, who also plays tight end, has been the best.
"He doesn't even practice (fullback) a lot," Wilson said. "When he gets on the field, he's the best blocker.
"He actually performs at fullback better than the fullbacks."
Eldridge's ability to play both positions causes some confusion for opposing defenses. Coaches watch which players are in the opposing team's huddle to decide which of their own players to put on the field.
"When we put Brody and Joe Jon (Finley) on the field, sometimes we're in the I-formation and sometimes we're in two tight ends," Wilson said. "I think defensive coaches would rather we put one of our fullbacks on the field, because then they would know we're going to be in the I."
