Oklahoma assistants Kevin Wilson and Brent Venables each accepted some of the blame for the performance of their players in Saturday’s 34-33 loss to Oregon.

Head coach Bob Stoops says that is a natural reaction.

“Coaches, we always want to take responsibility,” Stoops said. “I sat up all night myself trying to question what I could have done, what would you have done differently. We all want to take responsibility for the actions of your players.

Wilson, the Sooners’ offensive coordinator, said his team’s inability to produce points early was a result of his poor game plan.

“We didn’t have a good first half at all,” he said. “I didn’t think I did a good job of getting us into a rhythm early.”

Adrian underappreciated?
Wilson feels his star running back, Adrian Peterson, is underappreciated because of the scenario in which he’s playing, with a young offensive line blocking defenses that aren’t worried about the Sooners’ passing attack. “With loaded boxes, I think that running back is playing about as good as you can ask anyone to play,” Wilson said. “He’s playing against a loaded deck every week and he’s playing great.”
