Ohio State-Texas is being praised, and rightfully so, as the kind of intersectional matchup that is all too rare in college football these days.

We're much more likely to be treated -- note sarcastic use of "treated" -- to a date with a I-AA opponent.
"Give the programs credit that are trying to keep those kinds of matchups alive," OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said.
He was talking about Texas and Ohio State -- and OU, too.
Castiglione confirmed Thursday the Sooners are in discussions with Ohio State about a two-game series. If finalized, the series wouldn't take place until sometime next decade, according to Castiglione, who said dates were still being worked out.
But Ohio State would join a long list of marquee opponents on OU's recent, current or future schedules.
In recent years, OU played home-and-home series with Alabama and UCLA. This year's schedule includes Washington and Oregon.
In 2007 and 2009, OU plays Miami. Future schedules include series with LSU, Florida State and Tennessee.
Any of those series could produce a mega-matchup like when Texas and Ohio State met last season or meet Saturday.
Or not. Considering how many years ahead of time the schedules are set, it takes serendipity.
OU was No. 1 when it played at Alabama in 2003, but the Crimson Tide was going through a down cycle. Washington isn't very good right now, but when the series was set, sometime in the early to mid-1990s, the Huskies were among college football's best.
