Comanche CountyDistrict Judge C. Allen McCall's ruling formalized the sentence Thompson received from a jury after being convicted of four counts of indecent exposure. He was ordered to serve one year in prison on each count, to run consecutively. He was accused of using a penis pump during trials he oversaw.
Thompson was taken from the courtroom to jail.
Part or all of the jury's sentence could have been suspended by McCall, who was appointed to oversee Thompson’s trial.
McCall called the case the most bizarre over which he's ever presided.
"This was not just a one-time incident," McCall said. "I'm not sure the best Hollywood screenwriter could come up with this set of facts. I'm not sure they could have been made up."
Special prosecutor Richard Smothermon has said he will seek forfeiture of Thompson’s retirement pay based on the conduct that led to his retirement.
"He put the state of Oklahoma on a national stage that we did not want to be on and I'm glad his 15 minutes of fame are over," Smothermon said Friday. "We shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt ... just because we have a black robe in our closet."
Thompson, 59, was a district judge for 22 years before announcing his retirement in August 2004, shortly before a civil trial seeking his ouster was to begin.
He was a state legislator before becoming a judge.
Thompson consistently has denied using a penis pump, although he said he received one from a friend as a gag gift.
