Obama laments 'horrific outburst of violence' outburst
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is calling a mass shooting at an Army base in Texas a "horrific outburst of violence."
He says he doesn't yet know all the details but promised the government would get "answers to every single question."
The commander in chief says it's a tragedy to lose a soldier overseas and even more horrifying when they come under fire at an Army base on American soil.
Obama also said his thoughts and prayers are with the wounded and families of the fallen.

Authorities said immediately after the shootings that they had killed the suspected shooter, but later in the evening they recanted and said that he was alive and in stable condition at a hospital, watched by a guard.
"His death is not imminent," said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood. He offered little explanation for the mistake, other than to say there was confusion at the hospital.
A law enforcement official identified the shooting suspect as Army
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.
The violence was believed to be the worst mass shooting in history at a
U.S. military base.
The shooting began around 1:30 p.m., when shots were fired at the base's
Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening, Cone said.
It was unclear what the motive was, though it appeared he was upset about a scheduled deployment.
U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said the Army major was about to deploy overseas, though it was unclear if he was headed to
Iraq or
Afghanistan and when he was scheduled to leave. Hutchison said she was told about the upcoming deployment by generals based at Fort Hood.

Are you talking about the crusades? That's pretty funny. It seems to me, if I remember my history, that a majority of the crusades were against Muslims. Just a thought. Wars have been fought for many years between Muslims and Christians.

If not, why not?
Randall, feel free to jump in and take a stab at those questions as well, since you seem to feel we need a "crystal night" to eliminate threats....

Like I said, all you have to do is WANT to look and see, and there it is...
"
Yes, Christianity has had its dark times, but it reformed."----And just what did it take for the "reform" to happen? Time, perhaps? Are you stating that time to reform should not be granted in this instance as well?
Why? Because Americans are dying? Think the the ones slaughtered in the name of Christianity thought the same way?
You are biased and a hypocrite, Weldon.
Yes, Christianity has had its dark times, but it reformed. And if this person had been a "Christian", then you would see plenty of condemnation. But not from Islam...
So Paul there's your difference... Please, I keep giving you this advice, leave Oklahoma if it's so bad, man your bashing and drivel gets old...
How about if he was Southern Baptist??
Methodist??
I thought so.
Stating Islam is "phony" because of killing people is also calling Christianity "phony" for the same reasons....or in your mind, is killing for Christianity ok versus killing for Islam??
Whoever commented on the first couple pages of this article about the "backwoods, mouth breathe, okie" responses is pretty much dead on.
Tell me Randall, do you choose to only look at the killings in the "name of Islam" and ignore all the killings in the "name of Christianity"??
"Hey everyone,Just wanted to let you all know that we are fine if you have been watching the news about Fort Hood. The incident happened two miles down the road that my building is on. Adrian left for Maryland this morning but I'm still at my building since the post is locked down. No one can leave the post or the buildings and no one can come in. Just waiting for them to give us the all clear so we can go home. Ashley is safe at home. Hopefully they will decide to let us go soon."
Lt. Gen. Cone just announced at the press conference that the shooter is not dead. He is alive, wounded, and in stable condition.
