Two minor earthquakes early Monday shook the Midwest City and Del City region, said Jim Lawson, chief geophysicist for the Oklahoma Geological Survey.

Lawson said the first happened at 12:12 a.m., with a magnitude of 2.0 on the Richter scale. Another followed at 12:29 a.m., registering a magnitude of 1.3, he said.

The Oklahoma Geological Survey received reports from 10 residents who felt the quakes.

Until December, earthquakes were uncommon in eastern Oklahoma County. Before then, no more than eight minor quakes had been reported in the area in the past 29 years, Lawson said.

The geological survey Dec. 20 recorded two earthquakes measuring about 2.6 and 2.7 on the Richter scale. Including Monday's tremors, six minor quakes have been recorded in the same area since then, Lawson said.
